Chiropractic Care in Belvidere
Chiropractic care is a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes: patient examination, diagnosis, and treatment. Central to our Belvidere chiropractic care procedures are “spinal manipulations,” also called “chiropractic adjustment.”
Manual Manipulation Care in Belvidere
The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become restricted in their movement, as a result of a tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as the improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the sufferer. Manipulation, or adjustment, of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby, alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.
Spinal Decompression
Spinal decompression is the science of restoring the spinal discs in the spine to a more healthy and operational condition. This advanced technology has developed rapidly and has become a preferred method for handling most chronic back pain and nervous system problems.
Spinal decompression is also non-invasive and does not traumatize or hurt the body. Contrast this with traditional surgery where the surgeon often removes parts of the spine in an attempt to relieve disc pressure. Spinal decompression uses specialized equipment and techniques to remove pressure from the damaged and distressed discs in the spine that are often the cause of pain, discomfort, and disability.
Manual Therapy
Manual therapy involves ‘hands-on’ therapeutic procedures designed to promote blood flow, relaxation, and healing in areas of injury. The target tissue of manual therapy is the connective tissue in the musculoskeletal system. This connective tissue holds muscle fibers in groups to make a muscle and to hold muscles together. These structures also attach muscle to bone, bone to bone, as well as, skin to fat and fat to muscle.
Manual therapy involves applying deep pressure and slow penetrating strokes generally along the length of the muscles. It is a soft tissue manipulation and releases restricted areas of the muscles. It is not painful usually but can be very intense.
